In memory of                       Brenda                who passed in 2005    When Brenda and I first met, she was a bubbly, mischievious 16-year-old in my first class as a teacher: junior English at Greensburg High School. We both soon learned that we had a similar sense of humor and an infectious laugh to match! During one memorable class period, several students were reading aloud parts of a play. One young man was at “that stage” where he never knew what his voice might do. Just as he read one particularly strong line, his voice cracked big time! This was followed by a split second of stunned silence from the class, until Brenda’s eyes met mine and she flashed that sparkling smile. Turning in her desk, she looked at the young man and gently said, “Neal, run that alto by me again!” The class—including the young man and this teacher—roared in laughter. There was no malice in what Brenda had said; the young man knew it and so did everyone else. Brenda had just let us all know that this was “no big deal.” The young man went right back to his reading. Brenda and I rarely saw one another after she graduated from high school. When we did meet, however, we were talking and laughing as if no time had passed. That beautiful smile will always belong to a 16-year-old in my mind. And Brenda will always      be the kind, caring             person that so many           knew and loved.       Betty Allison, retired English teacher, Greensburg High School and Green County High School                                   4-23-1tc
